➡️A name that appeared for the first time (along with some other young athletes) was among the calls of the Federal Women’s National Coach, Giorgos Palalas, during the recent invitation he sent out!
It is about Josephine Vourliotis, whom the older ones know is the daughter of Ploutos Vourliotis, once an athlete of ETHA, Keravnos and Achilleas Agros!
The “BS” in a post published on 06/05/2025, had given the… skirmish for Josephine Vourliotis (13/02/2005 – 1.85) together with photographic material in which she is holding the Cypriot flag, as it is depicted in the present post!
So the first call for the young forward is a fact, but also her first interview!
In which she talks about how she felt when she received the call for the National Team, about her career so far, but also about her dreams, regarding basketball!
🎙️How did you feel when you found out that you were called up to the Cyprus National Team?
I was excited and honored when I found out I had been selected for the Cyprus national team training squad. The chance to represent Cyprus in the future is something that means a lot to me, not only because of my Cypriot roots but also because of my dad’s connection to basketball there.
He had a long and successful basketball career in Cyprus, so having the opportunity to wear the national team jersey myself feels very special. I know it would make him very proud. It feels like I’m continuing a family legacy.

🎙️A few words about your career so far…
My basketball journey has not always been easy, especially during the past few years in the United States. I have adapted to a new culture, lifestyle, and level of competition.
My experiences have helped me grow, both as a player and as a person. I am grateful for everything I have learned along the way.
🎙️What are your basketball dreams?
My dream is to play professional basketball in Europe. I am proud to have both Greek Cypriot and German roots, and I have also played at English national junior level.
Most importantly, I want to keep developing as a player and build a successful career that inspires others and makes my family proud.

As for the story that began to be written about Josephine, there is also a similarity in it, similar to that of her father, when he had come to compete in Cyprus, for the first time, specifically, in 1991, on behalf of ETHA!

🎙️When I first came to Cyprus in 1991 I played for Etha then Keravnos 1992-94, then again in 1996 when we won the double championships.
I was 22yrs old, similar to Josephine when I practiced with the national team. I didn’t play because I would have had to do 6 months in the army so I chose to play for England instead.
After Cyprus I played in England, Austria and Germany, including half a season with Dirk Nowitzki before he played NBA.
It makes me proud to see Josephine have the opportunity to represent Cyprus in the future. Hopefully she can also start her professional career in Cyprus and continue playing in Europe after she finishes college in the USA next year.
